Very similar in appearance and growth habit to lemon balm, but has a scent and taste which is like lime. This is an ornamental lemon balm having very attractive gold green variegated leaves. It is really attractive in the spring. Grows to 80cm. tall. This is a herbaceous bushy herb. Has a strong scent and taste of lemon. It is used in many dishes to impart a lemon flavour and also for making a lemony herbal tea. Lemon balm has also been know to be used as a flavouring in some alcoholic drinks. This plant has a many medicinal uses. It can be used in the treatment of cold sores, fevers, colds, indigestion, nervousness, depression, sleep disorders, flatulence, increases perspiration treats menstrual problems, stomach complaints, nausea, and headaches. a poultice can be made to treat herpes, gout, sores, bites, and can be used as an insect repellent. This herb is antibacterial and anti-viral. Overall, lemon balm has a soothing and calming effect on the body. Lemon balm makes a good addition to pot-pourri. Mint, when in flower are loved by bees and butterflies.
